Configuring Do-It-Yourself Table Columns

The numeric columns area consists of those columns where balances are calculated or entered by the user. By default, each new Do-It-Yourself table includes two numeric columns.

Inserting Columns in Do-It-Yourself Tables

After you have created a Do-It-Yourself table, you can insert columns in the table.

  1. Open the Firm Library document for the financial statement area that contains the Do-It-Yourself content and follow the instructions in the section Editing a Do-It-Yourself table to mark the table as editable.
  2. Click anywhere in an existing column of the Do-It-Yourself table. The new column will be added to the left of this column.
  3. From the Section menu or right-click menu, select Modify table and New column.
  4. In the Insert Columns dialog, select or type the number of columns to add. You can insert up to 10 columns at a time to a maximum of 92 columns.
  5. Click OK. The Column Calculation dialog appears, which enables you to specify the properties of the columns. You can either specify the properties now, or edit each column later. See Editing columns in Do-It-Yourself tables for more details on how to use the Column Calculation dialog to edit a column.
  6. Click OK.
  7. If multiple Do-It-Yourself tables have been defined in this section of the financial statement area, a dialog appears asking you whether you want to add the new column to all Do-It-Yourself tables or to this table only. Click Yes to add the column to all tables, or click No to add the column to this table only.

The column is added to either the specific Do-It-Yourself table or to all Do-It-Yourself tables.

  4. In the Column Calculation dialog, in the Calculation Type section, select the radio button next to the calculation type for this column:

    • Input - The cells in this column are input cells that the user can type directly into. For more information on the attributes of an Input column, see Specifying input column attributes.
    • Subtotal - Provides a subtotal of other columns in the table. For more information on the attributes of a Subtotal column, see Specifying subtotal column attributes.
    • GRP Calculation - Allows you to build a calculation for all cells in the column based on the selections in the dialog. The actual mapping or grouping used is selected within the table. For more information on the attributes of a GRP Calculation column, see Specifying_GRP_Calculation_column_attributes.
    • Custom Calculation - Allows you to manually input your own calculation for all cells in the column where the calculation cannot be built using the GRP Calculation type. Use of this calculation type requires an understanding of CaseView formulas. For more information, see the CaseView help topic About Cell Calculations.

The input box is outlined in green for valid calculations and red for invalid calculations. To preview the output, place your cursor over the input box and a tooltip appears with the result. For more information on the attributes of a Custom Calculation column, see Specifying custom calculation column attributes.
