Locking Down a Client File

Engagement files can be locked down a specific number of days after the financial statements are issued. You can wait until that time and then lock down a file immediately, or you can set the lockdown to occur automatically based on the report release date. Regardless of the time of the lockdown, a milestone will be created once the lockdown occurs. This milestone will remain in your client file and cannot be deleted.

  • If Protection is activated, you require the Engagement right, Lock Down, to perform this operation.
  • Select the items that you want to lock down >>How Do I?
  1. Open the client file that you want to lock down.
  2. On the Engagement ribbon, click Lock Down.

    The Engagement Lockdown Wizard opens.

  3. Complete the screens of the Engagement Lockdown Wizard.
  4. Click Finish to complete the Lockdown.

If you selected to run any of the items listed in the Lockdown Considerations page, these operations are performed. The year end close is run first followed by the Cleanup; files are copied or deleted as specified.

Note: Although the Cleanup wizard opens first, the year end close is actually performed before the cleanup.

If you chose to lock down the file immediately, all documents are locked down except for those you decided to keep active. If you selected to lock down the file after document completion date, changes can still be made to the engagement file, but once the lockdown date approaches, the file will be locked. In both cases, a milestone will be created at the time of the lockdown.
