Exporting GIFI data for imports - ProFile

The General Index of Financial Information (GIFI) is a comprehensive list of financial statement items where each item has a unique code. It allows your corporation to report its unique combination of accounts to the Canada Revenue Agency.

Use the export data to GIFI command to export Working Papers data into a GIFI text file that you can import into a tax application. This is applicable when ProFile is selected as the Tax Vendor in Engagement Properties. Data can be exported to an ASCII text file or to a ProFile T2 return file.

With this feature, you can perform two separate actions that create two different files:

  • Export GIFI numbers and balances to a file which can include notes to financial statements from CaseView. A file with the following data is created

GIFI numbers and corresponding current year balances.

The EIN/BN (Business Number) field in the Engagement Properties is exported to the GIFI export file.

Any other data chosen by selecting various check boxes in the dialog; for example with consolidated files, you can select the Export multiple income statements check box to export income statements.

  • Export only notes to financial statements to a file. See the CaseView topic Exporting only the financial statement notes to a GIFI file for details. A file with the following data is created.
  • GIFI header and notes for financial statements only.

GIFI Export Balances

The export will automatically adjust for positive and negative balances as required for GIFI filing purposes. For example, a balance of ($10,000.00) in GIFI code 3600 – Retained earnings/deficit, will export as 10,000.00.

Balances include cents and should be adjusted within the tax application.

  1. Open the Working Papers client file from which you would like to export.
  2. From the File menu, select Export | GIFI. The Export of Data to GIFI dialog will appear.
  3. Complete the fields of the dialog.>>Quick Reference
  4. Click OK to process the export. Depending on the selections made during the export process, the following may occur:
    • If you selected the CaseView Notes option for the export, the Select CaseView documents containing financial statement notes dialog will display. You will need to select the CaseView documents containing financial statement notes by clicking the applicable check boxes.
    • If you selected the Entity Specific Export check box, the entity selection dialog appears for you to select the entity to export.

Note: The E.I.N./BN (Business Number) field in the Engagement Properties is included in the GIFI export file.

The data will be exported to GIFI.
