Using Mapping Numbers

When creating a Working Papers template for use across a wide range of clients, it is desirable to have a master chart of accounts. Working Papers has provided this by way of map numbers. The Mapping database permits the creation of a master chart of accounts that is common to all client files while still maintaining the client specific chart of accounts.

For consistency across client files, the Mapping database must accommodate the greatest number of accounts possible. As we have provided a default Mapping database, it should be necessary to modify only existing map numbers.

When creating new client files from the demo client file, the default Mapping database is automatically available in the new file. The Mapping database can also be made available to existing client files by using the Copy Components feature. The map numbers are then assigned to the accounts in the client's chart of accounts. Map numbers contain identical fields to account numbers and can be used to complete account properties when entering a client's chart of accounts in the Working Trial Balance.
