About Sub-Documents

In the creation of large reports, it may be necessary to divide the report into smaller areas or documents. This permits multiple people to work on the same project simultaneously. Once inserted as part of the main document, the sub-document remains a separate entity functioning independently of the main document. As the sub-documents are modified, these changes are reflected in the main document. In this way, the reviewer or client can examine the main document periodically providing feedback to the designers.

Sub-documents can be a very powerful addition to the practice. They provide an interactive facet to the completion of large scale projects. Documents can be monitored at each stage of development promising a more polished final product. Use multiple table of contents throughout the main document to guide the reader through the document.
