Tagging Documents for XBRL

Use the XBRL Document Tagging Dialog to assign the following XBRL elements to a document when using XBRL specification 2.1:

  • Taxonomy labels to associate with the data in the document.
  • Contexts that further distinguish the data; you can use the standard contexts or create custom contexts with which to tag a document.
  1. If the XBRL Document Tagging dialog is not open, on the Tools tab, click XBRL | Tags to open the XBRL for Financial Statements dialog. Select XBRL Version 2.1 and then select the taxonomy from the Available Taxonomies drop-down list you want to use and add it to Associated Taxonomies.
  2. Once the first step is complete, the XBRL Document Tagging dialog will open. Select to tag the selected area with the current taxonomy.
  3. Select the role you want to use from the Roles drop-down menu to load associated tag labels. Click Tag to assign the appropriate XBRL element and activate the label box.
  4. In Label area, select the XBRL element that corresponds with the selected item in the CaseView document. You can expand and collapse the XBRL elements to find information quicker. Elements that have already been tagged are grayed out so that you can see that you have already used this element once in your document.
  5. Right-click on a taxonomy element in the Label area to tag on multiple items in the document. Upon right-clicking, you can access a sub-menu which provides two options:
    • Add together all tagged values - This allows you to have their values automatically accumulated during the XBRL export, or
    • Use single tag if all values equal- This allows you to tag multiple items in the document with the tag and on export. Also, selecting this option will produce one tag for any tagged items with identical values.
  6. In Context field, select a context for the data being tagged, for example reporting period. If needed, you can make changes to the context by clicking Edit.
  7. In Numeric field, select the type of numeric data being tagged. If needed, you can make changes to the context by clicking Edit.
  8. To continue adding tags to other areas of the document, repeat the preceding steps.

Note:Tagging is automatically saved each time you move to a different area in the document.

  9. Once you have completed tagging the document, click OK to save your changes and exit the dialog.
  • When you copy and paste tags with multiple tagging configured, (Add together all tagged values or Use single tag if all values equal), these settings will be transferred to the target document.
  • When you perform a Knowledge Library insert with tags that have multiple tagging configured, (Add together all tagged values or Use single tag if all values equal), these settings will be transferred to the target document.
