SmartSync Synchronization Conflicts

Resolving synchronization conflicts in a timely manner ensures that the accuracy and integrity of the client file is maintained.

There are two types of conflicts:

  • Duplication conflicts that SmartSync resolves automatically.
  • File change conflicts that require user input.

Duplication conflicts occur when multiple users create duplicate items, such as adjusting journal entry numbers, in their sync copies. SmartSync automatically resolves the conflict but a user can confirm the proposed conflict resolution. If the resolution is not correct, a user can manually update the client file.

File change conflicts can occur when external documents are changed simultaneously. Because the external documents are synchronized entirely rather than the incremental changes, SmartSync assigns the last modified copy as the current version but a user must confirm which version of the document is the current version.

There are three ways to resolve change conflicts:

  1. Launch the Change Conflicts dialog from the Synchronization Conflicts dialog.

Click Confirm or double clicking on the file change conflict to resolve.

  2. Launch the Multiple Versions dialog by opening a document with a file change conflict.

Highlight the desired version and click Confirm on the file change conflict to resolve.

  3. Launch the Versions dialog by right-clicking on a document with a file change flag on Document Manager and click Show All Versions.

Highlight the desired version and click Confirm on the file change conflict to resolve.
