Template Update Installation

Customized master templates should be updated by the template author. After updating, the master template can be further customized, repackaged, and distributed to your users. Template updates include changes for both functionality and content. The installation of an update modifies the master template and installs files needed for the client file updates. Users need to update each of the existing client files.

Note: Do not install a full copy of the template over an existing template. Doing so will overwrite any customizations that have been made to the template.

Step 1: Backup

Step 1: Backup your existing master template (optional)

Prior to installing an update, the administrator should make a backup of the master template.

Procedure

  1. Close all instances of CaseView.
  2. In Working Papers, click Tools | Templates.
  3. Select the template to back up, then click Repackage.
  4. In the Template Packager Wizard, click Next.
  5. On the Global Options page, select a secure location for your output file and the corresponding client file name. Click Finish.

Step 2: Download

Step 2: Download the update

Prerequisites

  • Ensure that you have CaseWare Working Papers version 2018 or later installed. If your office has not yet upgraded to Working Papers 2018 or later, sign into MyCaseWare and download the Working Papers installation file from Software Downloads.

Procedure

  1. An email containing the download link to the Audit International template is provided to your firm’s licensed administrator. Click the link in the email to access the download page, then click Download.

Note: When saving the .cwp file to your computer, do not change the file name, as it can result in installation issues.

  2. Navigate to the location where you saved the downloaded .cwp file, then move the .cwp file to a secure location.

Step 3: Update your master template

Step 3: Update your master template

Updates can be installed on the Firm author’s copy of the master template. After updating, the firm author can review the changes, make further customizations if necessary, and repackage the master template.

Note: Staff should install the firm’s repackaged master template that includes the update rather than the downloaded update. If your firm does not make any customizations to the master template, staff can install the downloaded update file.

Procedure

  1. To launch the installation wizard, double-click the .cwp file you downloaded in the previous step.
  2. Click Yes when the User account control ("UAC") prompt displays.
  3. On the Welcome screen, click Next to continue.
  4. Accept the End User License Agreement, then click Next.
  5. We recommend using the default Program Folder and Document Library file paths. Click Finish.
  6. The template will begin installation. When complete, the dialog will indicate a successful installation. Click Close.
Notes:
  • Updating the master template can take up to 30 minutes to complete.
  • The order of documents that displays in the Document Manager have been streamlined for ease of use. Since changes to the Document Manager could be extensive, the update may also include the rearrangement of the Document Manager in your master file. Any firm authored folders or documents will display either at the top of the Document Manager or at the top of their respective folder.
  • The firm should review the Document Manager and perform a one-time rearrangement of documents if needed. Engagement files will not be rearranged, with the exception of any new files displaying at the top of the Document Manager.
