About Browses

Browses allow users to access Working Papers and Time database information directly, based on specific criteria. Once set up, the user can select from the browse using a popup cell. Browses can also be used to allow the user to see supporting data when entering something into an input cell.

Browses are filtered listings of the Working Papers/Time database, so creating browses requires some knowledge of the Working Papers/Time databases and a familiarity with using database filters. When entering filters in a browse, the database should always be identified, for example AM->, since the same field name can be used in more than one database. Through the use of CaseView functions or a secondary database, users can view additional information not available in the primary database.

By setting fields to be user modifiable, information can be written back to the Working Papers/Time database directly from the browse. This information is written as the browse is closed, as CaseView is closed, or as the cursor's focus moves away from the changed field.

Notes

  • Access the Configure Browses dialog either on the Tools tab, click Browses or click the Edit Browses button in the Popup tab of a cell. Browses are saved with the CaseView document. See Copying browses between files for information on how to transfer browses from one CaseView file to another.
  • Users cannot modify any split-up account using a generic CaseView browse since split-up accounts only update when the OK button is clicked in the Split-up dialog. To update a split up account in CaseView, users need to use the Launch CaseWare dialog event to launch the Split-up dialog instead.
