Block Renumber Dialog

Renumbers a block of cells. Each cell number has a maximum length of 10 characters and must have an alphanumeric prefix. The rest of the cell number may be a combination of letters and numbers.

Renumbering Method

Three methods are available for renumbering a block of cells. Select the applicable radio button and the options available will change accordingly.

Reincrement

Choose this option to reincrement the selected cell numbers. The reincrement option permits the starting cell number in the block to be redefined using any selected number. A reincrement value may also be selected whereby the difference between each cell is determined by a set amount. Cell numbering could be set to start at 100 with an increment amount of 1, and so cells c25, c28, and c32 would be renumbered: c100, c101, and c102 respectively.

Reincrementing Options

Enter information to control how the cells are to be renumbered.

Starting Cell Number

If reincrementing cell numbers, type or select a starting cell number.

Increment between cells

If reincrementing cell numbers, type or select the difference between cell numbers.

Constant shift

Choose this option to apply a constant shift to the selected cell numbers. A constant shift will cause the cell numbers to increase or decrease from their original amount by the amount specified in the Amount box.

Constant Shift Options

Set variables for the constant shift.

Amount (Positive or Negative)

Type or select the amount of the shift.

If using the constant shift method, choose this option to increase the cell number by the specified positive amount in the Amount box. Therefore if an Add to cell number amount of 5 is selected, each cell number will have 5 added to its original cell number.

For example, cell numbers c100, c106 and c115 would be renumbered c105, c111 and c120 respectively.

If using the constant shift method, choose this option to subtract a set amount from each cell number. Therefore if the Subtract from cell number option is selected with a 10 in the Amount box, each cell number will have 10 subtracted from its original cell number.

For example, cell numbers c100, c106 and c115 would now be numbered c90, c96, and c105 respectively.

Modify Prefix

The user may include an alpha prefix in cell numbering. Choose this option to renumber cells by changing or adding a prefix.

Modify Suffix

The user may include an alpha suffix in cell numbering. Choose this option to renumber cells by changing or adding a suffix.

Modify Prefix or Suffix Options

Select options to renumber the selected cells by changing their alphabetic prefixes (at the start of the cell number) or suffix (at the end of the cell number). Cell numbers and their prefixes/suffixes have a character limit. Ensure the new prefix or suffix does not make the cell number more than 10 characters long.

Action

Select the method from the drop-down list for altering the cell prefixes or suffixes.

Replace

Select to replace the existing prefix/ suffix with the contents entered in the Prefix or Suffix field.

Replace at Beginning

Select to replace the first character of the existing prefix/ suffix with the contents entered in the Prefix or Suffix field.

Replace at End

Select to replace the last character of the existing prefix/ suffix with the contents entered in the Prefix or Suffix field.

Insert at Beginning

Select to insert the contents of the Prefix/ Suffix field before the existing prefix or suffix.

Insert at End

Select to insert the contents of the Prefix field after the existing prefix.

Prefix or Suffix

Enter the new prefix or suffix or the modification to the existing prefix or suffix.

Rereference calculations

Yes

Choose this option to rereference calculations from the old cell numbers to the new ones. For example, if renumbering cells c100, c106 and c115, any calculations in these selected cells would be re-referenced to reflect the cell number change. In addition, all cells in the CaseView document with calculations involving cell c100, c106 or c115 would also be re-referenced accordingly.

No

Choose this option to not rereference calculations from the old cell numbers to the new ones.

Target cells only

Choose this option to rereference calculations for the selected cells only. For example, if renumbering cells c100, c106 and c115, any calculations in these selected cells would be re-referenced to reflect the cell number change. However, cells outside the selected range with calculations involving cell c100, c106 or c115 will not be re-referenced and will retain the old cell number as part of the calculation.

Rereference Diagnostics

Updates any diagnostic conditions using the original cell numbers to the new cell numbers.

Rereference graphs, paragraph and section hide/skip conditions

Use these options to elect to maintain the existing cell numbers or to update skip criteria and graphs to the new cell numbers.

Renumber all skip/ hide conditions and graphs

Select this option to update skipping criteria, section formatting, and cell linkage to graphs from the original cell numbers to the new cell numbers.

Do not rereference any skip/ hide conditions and graphs

Select this option to maintain the original cell numbers used in skipping criteria and cell linkage in graphs.

Only in paragraphs containing target cells

Select this option, to renumber paragraph skip/ hide conditions in paragraphs containing the new cell numbers.

Only in paragraphs within the selection range

Select this option to renumber paragraph skip/ hide conditions in the area selected for renumbering only. Original cell numbers in paragraph skip or hide conditions will be replaced by the new cell numbers.
