Creating a Cross-Reference Note Number

You can only cross reference an existing note. Create a new note before cross-referencing it.

  1. Position the insertion point in the paragraph where you would like to insert the cross-reference.
  2. On the Insert tab, click Note Number Reference.

  3. Click New. A blank line is added to the cross-reference list.
  4. In the Cross-reference from box, select the note number identifier for the note number you want to cross-reference. A new cross-reference can be created by typing a name in the box.
  5. If applicable, select any other formats for the cross-reference. For instance, the note number reference symbol can be hidden in Form Mode when they are not being used in a document, by selecting the Hide unreferenced cross-references in Form Mode option.
  6. If applicable, set different formats for single note numbers vs. multiple note numbers. CaseView dynamically detects the format that is required and then displays the appropriate format in the document. To enter a calculation for the format, click to access the Calculation Editor.
  7. Click OK.

Notes

  • Cross-referencing note numbers enables you to refer readers to another part of the document. In the case of financial statements, use cross-referencing on a statement to refer readers to the financial statement notes for further explanation of an account balance.
  • Display only text for button cells cannot be used for a note number cross-reference.
  • Right-clicking on a note number or cross-reference while in the Design Mode displays the context menu options Goto Note and Edit Note Number. If the cross-reference is to more than one note, CaseView provides a list to select from.
