The CaseView Repository

The CaseView Repository provides the ability to reduce file sizes by storing scripts and images separately from the documents that they are used in. Images and scripts can now be added to the repository and then used in multiple documents while only needing to be stored centrally once.

Creating a Repository

In the Tools menu access Manage Repository. The dialog opened enables you to add new CaseView documents with repository content. These documents have an Identifier, a Version, and a Description. You can either browse for a CaseView file to add to the repository or leave the file section blank to create a new CaseView document where images and scripts can be added for access in various documents. The modify button on this interface is used to change the meta data for repository documents and the edit button is used to modify the documents themselves.

Scripts that have been added to the repository can also be found through the interface using Tools | Manage Scripts. Repository scripts are listed under the Repository section of this dialog.

Add

The Add button is used to add new CaseView documents to the repository. When you click the Add button, the Add Repository dialog opens with the following fields:

Identifier

This is the document identifier that identifies the document you are adding within CaseView.

Note: Invalid characters such as /,\,<,>,|,*,?,:,', and " cannot be used.

Description

A description of the document that you are adding and the repository content that it contains.

Version

The version number of your document can be used to manage updates to the content.

Filename

The name of the CaseView file that you are adding to the repository. Click Browse to locate a document to add. To add a blank document and open it for editing, leave this field blank.

Copy

Click this button to Copy a repository document. You will need to provide new values for the copy in the Name, Description, and Version fields.

Modify

The modify button on this interface is used to change the meta data for repository documents including the Name, Description, and Version. Repositories cannot be modified if the repository file is being edited.

Note that in sync children copies, modifying the repository identifier will create separate repository entries.

Delete

Click the Delete button to delete the highlighted document from the repository and then click Yes to confirm the deletion.

Note that if you delete a repository file, CaseView will automatically create a backup of the repository file with the .repbak file extension.

Edit

The edit button opens a repository document for editing.

Close

Click Close to close the Manage Repository interface.

Associating a Repository to Your Document

There is a new Repository tab on the Document Settings interface where items that are in the repository can be added to the local document. Once these repository items are added to the document settings they can be used in your document.

Add

Click Add to add a repository document to your current document. The repository list that is displayed is the same list that you can find under Manage Repository.

Delete

Click Delete to remove a repository document from the current document.

Using Repository Content in Your Document

To use repository images and scripts in your document, there are two different methods. For images, you will find the images from the repository in the list under Tools | Images. Repository images will appear on the list and the storage column for these items will have a value of Repository.

To use scripts from the repository you will implement them using the Event Action “Execute Script”. When you have selected an execute script event, the Script Name drop-down will include any scripts that are available in the CaseView Repository.

Repositories can be used in non-client independent CaseView documents. Individual CaseView documents will be converted to repositories when they are used in an individual CaseView file. You can add a repository file to a CaseView document by accessing the Design Mode Document Settings and clicking on the Repository tab.
