Renumber documents

Documents that you add to the Document Manager must be assigned a document number. The document number acts as an identifier for the document and helps organize documents in the Document Manager. If you want to change the number of a single document or multiple documents, complete one of the following procedures.

Note: You cannot renumber documents in a sync copy of the Working Papers file.

To renumber a single document:

  1. Right-click the document in the Document Manager and select Properties.
  2. On the General tab, enter the new document number in the Number field. Note that you cannot use duplicate numbers. Click OK.

The document is renumbered and sorted alphanumerically in the Document Manager.

To renumber a folder of documents:

  1. Right-click the folder in the Document Manager and select Renumber Documents.
  2. In the Renumber Documents dialog, enter the new starting number of the sequence. Click OK.

All documents in the folder are renumbered automatically based on the starting number and current order.

To renumber multiple documents:

  1. Hold CTRL on your keyboard and select each document that you want to renumber.
  2. Right-click one of the selected documents and select Renumber Documents.
  3. In the Renumber Documents dialog, enter the new starting number of the sequence. Click OK.

All the selected documents are renumbered automatically based on the starting number and current order. Note that using this method, you can renumber documents across multiple folders, however, the numbering is still based off your starting number.
