Connector options
You can customize Connector settings from the Options dialog. To access the dialog, click the Add-ins tab, then in the Connector group, click Tools | Options. Available settings vary between Word and Excel.
Option | Description |
---|---|
Local Currency Position |
Uses your local Windows Region and Language settings to determine where to position the currency symbol in relation to the balance amount. To modify the settings, launch the Windows Control Panel, then click Change date, time, or number formats | Additional settings... | Currency. |
Zero as Dash | Displays a dash (-) where the resulting value is zero. This option only applies to new linkages. |
Create Connector tab in Office ribbon toolbar interface | Adds a custom Connector tab to the ribbon in Word or Excel. Requires a restart of Word or Excel. |
Excel formula updated immediately |
Updates Excel to reflect the current value selected in the Linkage dialog. Resulting links display in the calculation bar, and resulting values display in the specified cell. Links display in real time but are not immediately applied.
If you do not perform either of these actions and close the Linkage dialog or click a different cell, then the changes are applied and a new reversion point is set. |
Update only Caseware links on Recalculation |
Allows you to switch between Excel's and Caseware's methods of recalculating. The option is enabled by default, indicating that Connector only recalculates cells with Caseware links, which could result in slower calculations. Disable the option to switch to Excel's method of recalculating, which recalculates the whole sheet in exchange for faster calculations. |
Combine Links |
Allows you to add a document reference to a cell that already contains a formula. |
Use Connector User Defined Functions (UDF) |
Sets all new links to the User Defined Functions (UDF) protocol. Existing links are not affected. To determine when to use the UDF protocol, see Connect to Working Papers. |
Use Client File opened in Working Papers for UDFs |
When this option is enabled, Connector establishes a connection with the Working Papers file that is currently active. This option is intended for Word or Excel documents located outside of a Working Papers file structure. To determine when to use the UDF protocol, see Connect to Working Papers. Note: Disabling this option will close the connection with Working Papers, however it may take a few seconds for Working Papers to register the change. |
Calculate when opening a Word file |
Enable or disable calculations when opening Word documents. This option is enabled by default. Disabling calculations can improve document load times, however no calculations will take place. |
Link Path Type |
Adds a type modifier to the location of the active file.
Note: This change only affects links created after enabling the option. Existing links are not affected. |
Update DDE Links on Open |
Set the default action for updating DDE links upon start up.
