Insert a page break

Page breaks are automatically inserted in documents as you add content; however, you can manually insert your own page breaks to control how pages are formatted. Strategically inserting page breaks can help you section content and improve how a printed document looks.

To manually insert a page break:

  1. Ensure you are working in Design Mode.
  2. Place your cursor in the document where you want to insert the page break.
  3. On the ribbon, click Insert | Page Break.
  4. In the Page Break dialog, select the type of page break to insert.

    Option Description
    Next page Continues content on the next page.
    Next even-numbered page Continues content on the next even numbered page. If the next page is not even, a blank page is automatically inserted to force the content to an even numbered page.
    Next odd-numbered page Continues content on the next odd numbered page. If the next page is not odd, a blank page is automatically inserted to force the content to an odd numbered page.
    Even-numbered page (this or next page) Continues content on the next even numbered page. If the current page is even, the content continues on the current page with no visible page break.
    Odd-numbered page (this or next page) Continues content on the next odd numbered page. If the current page is odd, the content continues on the current page with no visible page break.

    Click OK.

The page break is inserted and the document pagination is adjusted to accommodate it.

Notes:

  • You can quickly insert page breaks by pressing Ctrl + Enter on your keyboard.
  • To change a page break type, right-click the page break and select Page break type | <type>.
