Link Knowledge Library entries

You can source information from Knowledge Library entries by linking them into your document. After creating the link, you can easily apply the latest changes to your document by performing an update.

To link Knowledge Library entries:

  1. Place your cursor where you want to insert the Knowledge Library link.
  2. On the ribbon, click Insert | New Link.
  3. In the Knowledge Library filename field, click Browse... and navigate to the location of the Knowledge Library file (.cvw). Select the file and click Open.
  4. Click the Section label drop-down menu and select the entry that you want to link.
  5. Complete any additional options as required.

    Option Description
    Action when different
    • Compare differences: Select to compare the Knowledge Library document to the current document and summarize any differences.
    • Automatically update: Select to automatically replace the contents of the current document section with the contents of the Knowledge Library document.
    Save input values
    • Ask user: Select to display a prompt during the update that allows users to save selected values and delete others.
    • Always save values: Select to save all input values during each update.
    • Always discard values: Select to discard all input values during each update.
    Copy section label to this section

    Select to copy the section label of the Knowledge Library to the current section.

    Allow deletion of this link

    Select to allow deletion of the current link through removal of the link or the link and section contents.

    Update immediately

    Select to immediately update the Knowledge Library link upon closing the dialog. This option is only available when initially inserting the link.

    Action if Library not found
    • First prompt user for filename: Select to specify a new location for the Knowledge Library document. If you cannot locate the Knowledge Library document, CaseView uses the option in the following drop-down menu.
    • Ask to remove: Select to display a prompt before removing the Knowledge Library Link.
    • Leave current content: Select to retain the content of the current document even though it cannot update due to a missing Knowledge Library document.
    • Remove current content: Select to remove the content if the referenced Knowledge Library document does not exist.
    Action if Section Label not found
    • First prompt user for label: Select to specify the name of the section to update. If you cannot identify the section label, CaseView uses the option in the following drop-down menu.
    • Ask to remove: Select to display a prompt before removing the Knowledge Library Link.
    • Leave current content: Select to retain the content of the current document even though it cannot update due to a missing section label.
    • Remove current content: Select to remove the content if the referenced section label does not exist.

    Click OK.

The Knowledge Library entry is linked to the document. To edit the link content, right-click the section in the Style window and click Modify....

Notes:

  • Template authors can use various cell events to create buttons that insert, remove and update Knowledge Library links.
  • To remove a Knowledge Library link, on the ribbon, click Document | Remove. Select the link to remove and click Remove. The connection between the content in the document and the Knowledge Library is severed. Click Yes to keep the content in the document once the link is severed, or click No to remove the content.

Link entries from a Knowledge Library Index

You can also link entries from a Knowledge Library Index to the current document.

To link entries from a Knowledge Library Index:

  1. Place your cursor where you want to insert the Knowledge Library Index link.
  2. On the ribbon, click Insert | New Link From Index.
  3. In the Open dialog, navigate to the location of the Knowledge Library Index file (.dbf). Select the file and click Open.
  4. Click Next.
  5. The Knowledge Library Index displays. If applicable, select a view from the View drop-down menu to filter the available entries.
  6. Select the check box next to the entry that you want to insert. Click OK.

The Knowledge Library Index entry is linked to the document. To edit the link content, right-click the section in the Style window and click Modify....
