Changing DDE Link Connections

For documents composed of DDE links, you can alter the source client file for all links in the document by modifying the document Link Path. You can set DDE links to reference:

  • The Active File, or
  • A specific client file.

This procedure is useful for establishing a connection to new Working Papers client files after a year-end close.

To perform these operations, access the Link Paths dialog from the Connector toolbar by clicking Tools | Link Paths.

  1. Select the Active File entry or the link path to alter in the list.
  2. Click the Browse button.
  3. Locate and select the appropriate client file.
  4. Click Open.
  1. Select a link path to alter.
  2. Click Set Active.

After you alter the client file source, click Close.

After you open or click the Set Active button, all DDE links in the document update to establish the new connection (active file or specific file). We recommend you perform a recalculation to refresh the data retrieved from the Working Papers database. Click Tools | Recalculate to force links to retrieve data from the specified client file.

Make sure you save your document after verifying all changes.

Note: For previous versions of Connector, you cannot establish connections to client files of different Working Papers versions.
