Knowledge Library - Creating XDF File

Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) is an open specification that uses XML-based data tags to describe financial statements. The specification can be used by both public and private companies, and is intended to be, according to the XBRL organization itself, a "standards-based method with which users can prepare, publish (in a variety of formats), exchange and analyze financial statements and the information they contain.

Financials can create an XDF file that saves all properties of the XBRL tags from the library document and apply it to the financial statements.

Prerequisites

You need to first save your taxonomy files in the taxonomy folder in the following directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Caseware\Taxonomy

For more information on assigning tags, see Assign taxonomy elements to map numbers for more information.

Procedure

  1. In a Firm Library document, from the Content Management tab, in the XBRL group, select a taxonomy from the list.
  2. Click XBRL and select Create XDF file.
  3. Save the library document.

Results

The file will be created in the taxonomy folder ( C:\Program Files (x86)\Caseware\Taxonomy) with the log file.
