Import from Xero

You can import trial balance and general ledger details from Xero into your Working Papers file, either directly, or through exported data files.

Import from Xero (Online)

Directly import your accounting data from Xero into Working Papers.

Prerequisites:

  • You must have login credentials for Xero.

To import data from Xero (Online):

  1. On the ribbon, click Engagement | Import | Accounting Software.... The Import - Account Software dialog displays.
  2. In the Import From drop-down menu, select Xero.
  3. In the Version drop-down menu, select Online (Direct).
  4. In the Import Components group, select either Trial Balance (Opening Entries) or General Ledger Detail to specify the data to import.
  5. If applicable, select Import Client Information to copy client information into the Engagement Properties of your Working Papers file.
  6. Complete any other options as required:

    Option Description
    Period Balances Select to include period balances in the import, rather than year-to-date numbers.
    4-digit year (default current) Enter the accounting year of the imported file if it is different from the current year. If the accounting year spans across multiple years, type the year end date.
  7. Click OK to launch the Xero import window.
  8. Log into your Xero account.
  9. Click Allow access to allow Working Papers access to your accounting data on Xero.

The data is imported to your Working Papers file.

Import a Xero export

Export your Xero transaction data as a .txt file and chart of accounts as a .csv file, then import them into Working Papers.

Prerequisites:

  • Manually set your engagement's properties before attempting the import, as it contains no client profile information.
  • Export transaction data into a .txt file. In the Adviser | Export menu, click the Select product drop-down menu and select XERO. Specify the date range of the data and click Download.
  • Export the chart of accounts into a .csv file. In the Adviser | Export menu, click the Select product drop-down menu and select Lacerte Tax (even if you do not use Lacerte Tax). Specify the year end date and click Download.
  • If Protection is activated in the Working Papers file, the Import file permission is required to perform this operation.

To import a Xero export:

  1. Ensure you have completed all the necessary import prerequisites before you proceed.
  2. On the ribbon, click Engagement | Import | Accounting Software.... The Import - Account Software dialog displays.
  3. In the Import From drop-down menu, select Xero.
  4. In the Version drop-down menu, select All versions (Export).
  5. In the Import Path field, click Browse.... Navigate to the folder where you exported the .txt or .csv file and click Select Folder.
  6. In the Import Components group, select either Trial Balance (Opening Entries) or General Ledger Detail to specify the data to import.
  7. Complete any other options as required:

    Option Description
    TB file Select the applicable .csv file that you want to import (chart of accounts).
    GL file Select the applicable .txt file that you want to import (transaction data).
    Period Balances Select to include period balances in the import, rather than year-to-date numbers.
  8. Click OK to complete the import.

The data is imported to your Working Papers file.
