Context entity selector definition

A context entity selector is a drop-down list that allows you to switch back and forth between the data for each entity in a consolidation structure.

Consolidated client files have two context entity selectors:

Located on the toolbar in the Document Manager. Use this to move between entities while in the Working Trial Balance, Adjusting Journal Entries screen or when you are printing documents set to "Default Context" from the Document Manager.

This is the selector labeled "Context" found in the settings area of document properties dialogs for CaseView and automatic documents. Use this selector to assign a document to an entity in the consolidation structure. Leave it as "Default Context" and the document will act as a template, displaying data of the company chosen in the Global Context Entity Selector.

Note:

  • The Default Context is the first entry in the entity selector.
  • Once you change the entity from the default, the settings are saved in per-user and take precedence. These settings are also saved in CaseView.
  • If you open a file that you have previously accessed, the settings will be loaded from your user record.
  • If you open a file for the first time, the initial values will be taken from the FP database or the default value if those settings are invalid.
  • If two users are logged into the file on two different machines as the same user, when one user changes the entity/period selector, the other user's entity selectors will be updated.
  • If one user deletes an entity or removes a period date sequence type that another user is using, the second user will have the setting set to the default value.
