New!Template Updates in a SmartSync Environment

The Template Update feature has been modified to allow a client file created from a template to be updated when multiple sync copies are outstanding. This is a change from Working Papers 2014. In that version, a client file could only be updated if no more than 1 sync copy was outstanding.

  • All outstanding sync copies must be online.
  1. The template update can be initiated from either the Update from Template Available bubble or from the Template Update menu on the status bar.

  2. Run the template update.

Template has been updated.

  • If more than one sync copy exists for the same file, an additional page in the Template Update Wizard will display to ensure all sync copies are online and fully synchronized before allowing sync copies to update. Outstanding sync copies can be abandoned in order to proceed with the update.

  • Once the Template Update item has been selected, the program will try to lock parent's sync log for exclusive access (effectively put other sync copies into "read-only" mode). If the exclusive lock cannot granted, then update process will abort. If the exclusive lock can be granted the process will continue. While in the read-only mode, other sync copies are not allowed to modify the file.
