Creating Fortune1000 Export File in ASCII format

Note: Lotus 1-2-3 can also be used to save the export file in an ASCII text file format.

Saving the file in an ASCII text file format

  1. Open Microsoft Excel.
  2. From the File menu, click Open.
  3. In the Files of Type box, select Text Files (*.prn; *.text; *.csv).
  4. Select the name of the export file you want to open and click Open.
  5. Follow the Text Import Wizard to import the file into Microsoft Excel.
  6. Under Delimiters, select Other and enter a quotation.
  7. Make any modifications to the file to ensure that Working Papers can import it as an ASCII text file. Make sure that each field is in a separate column and that any heading lines are removed.
  8. On the File menu, click Save As.
  9. In the Save as Type box, select CSV (comma delimited) (*.csv) and then click Save.
  10. On the File menu, click Exit.

The file will be in ASCII format with a .csv extension and it can be imported into Working Papers using the ASCII text file import.
