Configuring Headers in Do-It-Yourself Tables

The Header Line area consists of the headings that display for each column.

Prerequisites

To configure headers in a Do-It-Yourself table, you must open the Firm Library document for the financial statement area that contains the Do-It-Yourself content and follow the instructions in the section Editing a Do-It-Yourself table to mark the table as editable.

Inserting a Header Line

By default, a Do-It-Yourself table is created with one header line. This is the minimum required for a table. You can create additional header lines for your table.

Procedure

  1. Open the Firm Library document for the financial statement area that contains the Do-It-Yourself content and follow the instructions in the section Editing a Do-It-Yourself table to mark the table as editable.
  2. Click in a header line of the Do-It-Yourself table. The new header line inserts below the selected header line.
  3. From the right-click menu, select Modify table and New header.
  4. In the Insert Lines dialog, select or type the number of header lines to add.
  5. Click OK.

Results

The additional header lines are inserted.

Note: The new header lines have the same number of paragraphs as the header line that you selected. They will also have the same skip/hide conditions applied. Cells do not copy.

Deleting a Header Line

You can delete any header lines that you have created.

Procedure

  1. Open the Firm Library document for the financial statement area that contains the Do-It-Yourself content and follow the instructions in the section Editing a Do-It-Yourself table to mark the table as editable.
  2. Click in the header line that you want to delete.
  3. From the right-click menu, select Modify table and Delete header.
  4. In the Warning dialog that asks you whether you are sure that you want to delete the selected header line, click Yes.

Results

The header line is deleted.

Sorting Header Lines

You can sort the header lines in a Do-It-Yourself table.

  2. Click in any header line.
  3. From the right-click menu, select Modify table and Sort header.
  4. In the Manual Section Sort dialog, select a header line to be moved. Click Move up to move the header line up in the table, or click Move down to move the header line down.
  5. Repeat the previous step until all header lines are sorted.
  6. Click OK.

Results

The header lines are sorted.

Merging Header Columns

In a Do-It-Yourself table, you can merge a header column with the column to the left or the right. This is useful if you want a single header for multiple data columns.

Procedure

  1. Open the Firm Library document for the financial statement area that contains the Do-It-Yourself content and follow the instructions in the section Editing a Do-It-Yourself table to mark the table as editable.
  2. Select cells or multiple cells in the header column that you want to merge.
  3. From the right-click menu, select Modify table and Merge cells.

Results

The two header columns are merged into a single centered header column. The paragraphs from the first column are placed above the paragraphs in the second column.

Unmerging a Merged Header

You can unmerge a header that you have previously merged.

Procedure

  1. Open the Firm Library document for the financial statement area that contains the Do-It-Yourself content and follow the instructions in the section Editing a Do-It-Yourself table to mark the table as editable.
  2. Click in a cell of the merged header column.
  3. From the right-click menu, select Modify table and Unmerge cells.

Results

All paragraphs in the merged header column are moved to the left header column, and a blank paragraph is created for the right header column.
