Template versions

When creating or updating a template, you can apply version numbers to the various components and documents that make up your template file. Use version numbers to identify which files based on the template need updating and allow users to quickly verify whether their files are up-to-date.

  • Component version numbers help you track changes to grouping, mapping, and document structures.
  • Document version numbers help you track changes to each specific document.

Note: You can easily view the version of a document in the current file and the version from the master template side-by-side from the Versions column in the Document Manager. Use this comparison to determine if a document should be updated.

To modify version information in a template file:

  1. Open the template you want to modify.
  2. Customize your components and documents as required for the template update.
  3. On the ribbon, click Tools | Template Versions.
  4. On the General tab, increment the version numbers as required.

    Option Description
    Identifier

The unique ID used to identify the template. Working Papers files use this ID to reference the source template.

    Component Version

The version numbers for various template components. When these version numbers are incremented in a template file, they trigger an update notification in each file based on it.

Version numbers use the format x.y.z, where x is a major version number, y is a minor version number, and z is a revision number. Version numbers can range from 1.0.0 to 999.999.999.

    Update Notification

Displays a notification dialog to users in files based on the template. Users can update the template directly from the notification dialog.

  5. On the Option tab, specify which map number properties to preserve in the Working Papers files that will receive the update.

    Option Description
    Mapping Structure Update

The map number properties that can be preserved in files based on the template. Selecting a property allows the client to choose whether or not to update it as part of the template update process.

    Document Identifier

Select to require all new document identifiers to be unique. You must update any duplicate or missing document identifiers before you can enable this option.

    Click OK.

The template version information is updated. Users will see the new version information in their Working Papers file after they install the update.
