Create a file and import data
When you are creating a new file, you can import additional client data from different Working Papers files or accounting packages.
Note: If you're creating a file based on an existing one, and importing data from an existing file, the imported data is appended to the existing data rather than overwriting it. To prevent this, base your file on an existing one that contains no accounts and balances.
To create and import data into a new Working Papers file:
- During the final step of file creation, click Create file and import data.
- On the Welcome screen, select where to import the client data from. Click Next.
-
Client Data File: Click Browse and navigate to the accounting data file containing the data to import. Click Next. Select which year to import accounting data from in the drop-down menu. Click Next.
Existing File: Click Browse and navigate to the Working Papers file containing the data to import. This option imports the Engagement Properties, consolidated entities, trial balance, account balances and journal entries from the existing file. Click Next.
Other Data Source: Select the applicable accounting package and version. In the Import Path field, click Browse and navigate to the accounting package file containing the data to import. Select any applicable software specific options, then click Next.
- A summary of the import displays. To proceed, click Finish.
The new file with the imported client data opens and the Engagement Properties dialog displays. Specify the Year End and Year Begin dates to proceed.
Create a file and import template documents
If you are creating a file based on a template, you can import documents from a secondary template during the file creation process.
To create and import template documents into a new Working Papers file:
- During the final step of file creation, select the base template for the new Working Papers file, then click Create file and copy documents from another template.
- On the Select a template screen, select the secondary template to import documents from. Click Next.
- On the Select template documents screen, select each individual document to copy, or click Select All to copy all documents. If required, you can filter the list of documents by specific parameters using the Document Filter drop-down menu. Click Next.
- A summary of the import displays. To proceed, click Finish.
The new file based on a template is created. Documents from the secondary template are added to the file.
