Pagination
Sets rules for how CaseView handles line breaks and page breaks for a paragraph.
Keep with:
Select | To |
---|---|
None |
Sets no limits to page breaks |
Next |
Prevents a page break between the selected paragraph and the following paragraph – regardless of whether the next paragraph prints or not. |
Next printed |
Prevents a page break between the selected paragraph and the next printed paragraph - no matter how many non-printing paragraphs between the two paragraphs. |
Keep together
Prevents a page break within a paragraph. A paragraph is any amount of text to the left of a paragraph mark ().
This option is not used to keep rows within a table together. To keep table rows together, you can use the Keep Together option in the Section dialog.
Page break before
Inserts a page break before a paragraph.
Notes:
-
When Working Papers/Time files are converted from an earlier version, paragraphs with the old Keep With Next setting are converted to keep with 'Next' (physical) paragraph.
-
The Keep with next property only affects pagination if the paragraph with it applied is printed. It has no effect on skipped paragraphs.
-
For rows within tables, adding a Keep with Next tag to the last paragraph in the last column of any row will keep that row with the next row. Adding the Keep with Next tag to the last column of the last row of the entire table will allow the row to keep with next with the paragraph following it. Adding a Keep with Next tag to any other paragraph in a table has no effect.
-
For wide tables that have been set to wrap when printed, putting a keep with next or a keep with next printed in any row other than the last row of the table, forces the row with the option set to display and print in the same set of rows as the next row. However, Keep with Next / Keep with Next Printed are not implemented for the last row of wrapping wide tables.
Spacing
Determines the amount of space between lines and between paragraphs.
Line spacing
Determines the amount of vertical space between lines of text.
Select | To |
---|---|
Single |
Sets the line spacing for each line to the equivalent of 10 point text. |
1 ½ |
Sets the line spacing for each line to one-and-a-half times that of single line spacing. For example, in 1 1/2 line-spaced lines of 10 point text, line spacing is approximately 15 points. |
Double |
Sets the line spacing for each line to twice that of single line spacing. For example, in double-spaced lines of 10 point text, the line spacing is approximately 20 points. |
At least |
Sets a minimum line spacing that CaseView can adjust to accommodate larger font sizes that would not otherwise fit within the specified spacing. Type or select the minimum amount of line spacing in the box provided. |
At most |
Sets a maximum line spacing that CaseView can adjust to accommodate smaller font sizes. Type or select the maximum amount of line spacing in the box provided. |
Exactly |
Sets a fixed line spacing that CaseView does not adjust. Type or select the amount of line spacing in the box provided |
Multiple |
Allows line spacing to be increased or decreased by any percentage. For example, setting line spacing to a multiple of 1.5 will increase line spacing by 50 percent whereas setting line spacing to a multiple of 0.7 will decrease line spacing by 30 percent. Type or select the amount of line spacing in the box provided. |
Paragraph height
Determines the height of the paragraph.
Select | To |
---|---|
Auto |
Automatically adjust its height as text is entered. An unlimited amount of text can be input. |
At least |
Set a minimum height setting that increases as new lines are added. An unlimited amount of text can be input. Type or select the minimum paragraph height in the box provided. |
At most |
Set a maximum height setting that cannot be expanded beyond the specification in the Paragraph height box. Type or select the maximum paragraph height in the box provided. |
Exactly |
Set a fixed paragraph height. Type or select the paragraph height in the box provided. |
Before
Type or select the amount of space you want before the first line of each selected paragraph.
Note: If you have inserted a page break, using Page Break Before, Working Papers/Time treats the page break as existing at the beginning of the paragraph. Spacing before does not show between the page break and the text.
Before (page top)
Paragraphs in CaseView have a property called "Before (page top)" that enables a custom spacing to be set if this paragraph is the first to appear on a page. This property can be used to prevent unwanted space from being inserted before the first paragraph on each page. Often the space needed must be set specially to separate the first paragraph from headers and carry forwards. This property is automatically set to zero space if the first paragraph on a page is within a table.
This property is not used if the paragraph
-
is not in the main body because it's a header or footer, etc.;
-
is not the first paragraph in a page; or
-
value is set to Automatic.
In all those cases the normal Space Before value is used.
After
Type or select the amount of space you want after the last line of each selected paragraph.
Options
Context menu
To enable an existing context menu to be available from this paragraph, select its name in the list. Click the button to launch the Context Menu editor, allowing access to add, copy, rename or delete a context menu.
Allow modification of contents in Form ModePermit editing in Form Mode
Allows the modification of the paragraph contents while in the Form Mode.
Clear contents on Roll Forward
Select to delete the paragraph contents during a roll forward.
Apply sibling styles only
Limits styles that can be applied to the paragraph in Form Mode with Editing Enabled. With this check box selected, users can select only styles that are children of the same parent style. For example, if the style Style1 has three styles created based on it, StyleA, StyleB and StyleC, and StyleA is applied to the paragraph, with this check box selected, users could only apply StyleB or StyleC to the paragraph if modifying the style.
To use this feature, the apply styles permissions must be enabled.
Skip
Determines an automatic skip condition for a paragraph.
Select | To |
---|---|
None |
If selected, CaseView will never skip the paragraph when printing. |
If all numeric, radio button and check box cells zero |
Will skip the line when printing if all numeric cells, including radio buttons and check boxes, within the paragraph are zero. |

If all cells blank |
Skips the line when printing if all cells within the paragraph are blank. |
Always |
Will always skip the paragraph when printing. |

Enter a logical skip condition to prevent the row from printing when the skip criteria are met. Click the button to access the Calculation Editor and create a skip condition.
Hide
Enter conditions and actions for hiding a paragraph.
Action
Determines display conditions in the Form Mode. If hiding options are not used for the Form Mode, access Print Preview to view the document as it will be printed with all skips considered.
Select | To |
---|---|
None |
Display the paragraph in Form Mode at all times. |
Hide if Skipped Text is unchecked |
Hide the paragraph in Form Mode if the Skipped Text option on the View tab is unchecked. |
Always hide |
Select to hide the paragraph in Form Mode at all times. |
Condition
Enter a hide condition to be used to control the displaying of skipped text in the Form Mode. You can use any expression to determine the displaying of the skipped paragraph in the Form Mode. For example, c100=500 always hides the skipped paragraph if cell number c100 has a value of 500. Click the button to access the Calculation Editor and create a hide condition.
You can also use the GETHIDE function to determine the appearance of the skipping paragraph in the Form Mode. The GETHIDE function displays or hides skipping paragraphs in the Form Mode based on the Show Skipped Text button being selected or deselected. How?
Hide only if paragraph is skipped
Select this option to use the hide action only when the paragraph is also set to skip when printing. When this option is not selected, the hide and the skip conditions are treated separately.
