Back up documents
You can automatically generate a backup copy of your document every time you click Save (or an autosave triggers) to ensure that you can restore it to a previous version if an error occurs.
To modify document backup settings:
- On the ribbon, click Document | Settings.
- In the Document Settings dialog, click the File tab.
- In the Filing Options group, click the Backup drop-down menu and select your backup preference. Click OK.
The backup settings are modified.
To restore a document from a backup:
- In Windows, open the folder containing the CaseView document (typically C:\Program Files (x86)\Caseware\Data\<file name>\).
- Locate the document with the .cvw file extension. Move the document to another folder or rename it. This allows you to restore the document if you no longer wish to use the backup.
- Locate the backup document. The backup document has the same name as the original document, but with the file extension .bak (e.g. SIMPLEFS.bak).
- Right-click the backup document and select Rename. Change the .bak file extension to .cvw (e.g. SIMPLEFS.cvw).
The document is restored to the backup copy.
