Export documents

You can export your documents to make them accessible in different applications. This can be particularly useful when you want to send a CaseView document to a client who does not have Working Papers.

Supported export types include:

Export to a web page

Export your document to a web page to enable it to display in any web browser. You can export the CaseView document as either .html or .htm file types.

Notes:

  • If you are exporting a document that relies on tabs for alignment, the output may not align properly. Web page documents cannot interpret tabs as space holders in a document. To resolve this, either remove all tabs to align the text, or place text within tables to handle any alignment issues you may have.
  • Related tables that are adjacent to each other will automatically merge in the output to ensure they maintain consistent column widths.

To export to a web page:

  1. On the ribbon, click File | Export | to HTML.
  2. In the Save As dialog, enter a name for the file, then browse to the location where you want to save it. Click Save.
  3. In the Publish HTML Document dialog, select any applicable options.

    Option Description
    Tables size to fit available space Select to resize tables in the document to fit within the space available.
    Include External Documents Select to include external documents as links in the web page.

    Click Finish.

The CaseView document is exported as a web page.

Export to a PDF

PDFs support security options that can prevent access or editing, allowing you to save protected copies of your documents for archival purposes. PDFs are accessible on almost all systems and can maintain most formatting options.

To export to a PDF:

  1. On the ribbon, click File | Export | to PDF.
  2. In the Print dialog, select the items you want to export from the Print what drop-down menu.
  3. Select any applicable options.

    Option Description
    First page number Type or select the page number to be displayed on the first page printed. This option allows you to start the page numbering at a number other than 1, which is useful when printing sub documents or when printing a document that is part of a larger document set. Changing this number also changes the page that shows on the File | Print | Page Setup dialog in Design Mode. This option is saved with the file when the file is saved.
    Print colored text black Prints any text that appears in color on your screen in black. This can be used for online forms that have colored content (for information purposes) that you want to print in black.
    Print skipped text Ignores any skip conditions when printing the document. The check box is disabled when the file is locked from the Design Mode and printed from the Form Mode or Form Mode with editing enabled.
    Print override dots Prints all overridden cells indicated with a dot.
    Print changed flags Prints all flags indicating where things have changed in the document.
    Print rounding indicator

    Prints all rounding cells indicated with one, two or three vertical bars (depending on which cell of the rounding relationship the cell represents – cells 1, 2 or 3)

    Print note annotations

    Prints all note annotations.

    Print tickmark annotations

    Prints all tickmark annotations.

    Print reference annotations Prints all reference annotations.
    Print simple button, check box and radio cells

    Prints all button cells, check boxes, and radio buttons.

    Print bracket highlights Prints all script circles that are visible in the document if the document.
    Download True Type fonts to the printer Uses True Type fonts for the print job instead of the printer's pre-installed fonts.
    Scale pages proportionally to fit table width Scales page contents to ensure tables, which would normally extend beyond the margins of the printed page, fit inside the available space. This is calculated on a page-by-page basis and scales the entire page to accommodate the wide table. Tables within headers or footers are not scaled.
    Print Graph

    Select whether to export graphs in color or monochrome, or use the default document setting.

    Click OK.

  4. In the Save as PDF dialog, enter a name for the file, then click Browse... to search for the location where you want to save it.
  5. Select any applicable options.

    Option Description
    Completely embed fonts that are used in the document Embed the entire character set of all fonts in the document during the export.
    Export as PDF/A (ISO 19005-1 compliant) Export the document to a standard archiving format.
    After export, open the document in the default program Open the exported PDF with your default PDF application upon completion.
    PDF Security Options

    Enable security options for the PDF.

    • Owner password: Add a password for the owner of the PDF. Re-enter and confirm the password.
    • User password: Add a password that users must enter to view the PDF. The User password should not duplicate the Owner password.
    • Enable printing: Allow users to print the PDF.
    • Enable document modification: Allow users to modify the PDF.
    • Enable copying text and graphics: Allow users to copy text and/or graphics from the PDF.
    • Enable modifying notes: Allow users to modify notes in the PDF.

The CaseView document is exported as a PDF.

Export to rich text

Export your documents to rich text if you need to view them in other word processing applications while preserving some of the original formatting attributes.

Note that the following CaseView attributes may be lost or modified when exporting to rich text:

  • Page shading
  • Page borders
  • Page breaks
  • Column shading or boxes
  • Dual column layout
  • Graphs (exported as images)
  • Page numbering
  • Headers/footers
  • Line styles
  • Cells (alignment, borders, shading, height, underlines)

To export to rich text:

  1. On the ribbon, click File | Export | Rich Text Format (.rtf).
  2. In the Save as RTF dialog, enter the name and path of the export file or click Browse to search for the file.
  3. Select any applicable options.

    Option Description
    Export conditionally skipped content

    Select to export content with a defined skip condition. If you do not select this option, all skipped text will be excluded.

    Export only pages containing selected content Select to export only the pages that contain selected content. If you do not select this option, all pages will be exported.

    Click OK.

The CaseView document is exported to rich text.

Export to plain text (ASCII)

Plain text documents do not support text wrapping by default; however, when exporting your CaseView document, you can choose whether to insert paragraph marks at the end of each paragraph to simulate text wrapping.

To export to plain text:

  1. On the ribbon, click File | Export | Text File (ASCII).
  2. In the Export dialog, enter a name for the file, then click Browse... to search for the location where you want to save it.
  3. In the File Type drop-down menu, select ASCII Text to export to a traditional text file, or select ASCII Text/Line breaks to automatically insert paragraph marks between lines.
  4. Select any applicable options.

    Option Description
    Range
    • All: Export the entire document.
    • Selection: Export only the selected document text. You must select the text to export prior to performing the export.
    Ignore Skip Conditions Select to ensure that all lines in the selected range are exported, regardless of skip conditions.

    Click Save.

The CaseView document is exported to a plain text document.
