P2P - Peer to Peer Synchronization Requirements

Before working off-site, ensure the team workstations are ready for peer-to-peer networking.

Network equipment

One of the following:

  • Router + network cables (minimum 2)
  • Switch/hub + network cables (minimum 2)
  • Wireless router
  • Wireless Access Point

Network configuration

It is recommended that the team work on it's own private network to avoid a network configuration. With the switch or router unplugged from the local network infrastructure each workstation will automatically get an IP address in the configured range.

For team engagements at a client site, the person acting as the peer parent:

  • Enables peer to peer synchronization through an external network.
  • Ensure that a hub, router, or wireless access point and adequate cables are available.
  • Create local logins on their workstation for each team member.
  • Share their SmartSync copy with the other team members. This requires that each team member can:

    • Connect to the peer parent workstation through a router or hub.
    • Have Read/Write access to the shared folder where the peer parent is located.

Each team member synchronizes with the peer parent. Once the office network is available, the peer parent synchronizes with the top-level parent.
