Sharing the Top-Level Parent Folder on a Separate Server
Running SmartSync Server on a separate server than the File Server requires specific sharing to be set on the top-level parent folder.
Prerequisites
Administrator credentials.
Procedure
- Open Administrative Tools | Shared and Storage Management.
- On the Actions pane, click Provision Share.
- Click Browse or type in the UNC path to the top-level parent folder. Click Next.
- Select No, do not change NTFS permissions and click Next.
- Type a Share name and click Next.
- Click Advanced.
- On the Caching tab, select No files or programs from the share are available offline and click OK.
- Click Next.
- Select Users and groups have custom share permissions and click Permissions.
- Click Add to open the Select Users, Computers, Service Accounts, or Groups dialog.
- Add a local administrator ID and click OK.
- Select the added ID and in the Allow column, select Full Control .
- Select Everyone and click Remove.
- Click Add to open the Select Users, Computers, Service Accounts, or Groups dialog.
- Click Object Types. Select Computers and clear the remaining object types. Click OK.
- Click Check Names or type in the computer name in the Enter the object names to select field.
- Click OK.
- Select the added computer and in the Allow column, select Changeand Read.
- Click OK.
- Click Next on SMB Permissions, DFS Namespace Publishing, and Review Settings and Create Share.
- Click Close.
Results
The top-level parent folder is shared.
