Creating an ASCII text file from Ace file

If you have a version of ACE that is not supported by Working Papers, use the following techniques to export the ACE data into a Lotus file format and then convert the export file into an ASCII text file

Creating the Ace export file

  1. Open the Ace client file.
  2. From the Report menu, choose Trial Balance, then select the report format that you want.
  3. Select Lotus 1-2-3 .
  4. Enter the path and file name.
  5. Press Enter. ACE automatically creates an export file with the file name filename.wks.

    Where...

    • filename represents the Ace export file name.
    • .wks represents the export file name extension used to designate Lotus 1-2-3 files. Lotus 1-2-3 can also be used to save the export file in an ASCII text file format. Microsoft Excel can also be used to read Lotus 1-2-3 files.

Saving the file in ASCII text file format

  1. Open Microsoft Excel.
  2. On the File menu, click Open.
  3. In the Files of Type box, select Lotus 1-2-3 (*.wk*).
  4. Select the name of the export file you want to open and click Open.
  5. Make any modifications to the file so that Working Papers can read it. Any heading information at the top of the file should be deleted as Working Papers cannot import it.
  6. On the File menu, click Save As.
  7. In the Save as Type box, select CSV (comma delimited) (*.csv) and then click Save.
  8. On the File menu, click Exit.

Accounting data is imported into the client file.
