Restoring Documents

A document or folder can be restored from the Recycle Bin by:

  • Selecting the document and on the Document tab, in the Edit group, clicking Restore.
  • Dragging the document to the Document Manager.
  • Cutting the document in the Recycle Bin and pasting the document in the Document Manager.
  • Restoring the document by clicking Restore places the restored document in the folder closest to the one from which it was deleted.

Example: Folder ABC has 5 documents, 1A, 2B, 3C, 4D and 5E. Document 3C is deleted. Restoring 3C would place it below 2B in folder ABC. If document 2B was also deleted, then the file would be places in folder ABC above 4D. If folder ABC was deleted, document 2B would be restored to the root folder.

  • Restoring the document by cutting and pasting, or dragging, places the document in that location. If the document is dropped on a folder, it is placed at the top of the folder in which it was dropped.
  • Restoring an external file that was located in a subfolder in the client file folder recreates the subfolder before restoring the file.

Example: The file ABC2014.xls, located in subfolder externaldocs (C:\caseware\data\testfile\externaldocs), is deleted from the Document Manager. The subfolder externaldocs is then also deleted from the document Manager. To restore ABC2014.xls, Working Papers recreates the subfolder externaldocs.

  • When restoring a document with a duplicate document number, the restored document number is incremented.
