New File from Client Data Wizard

The New File from Client Data Wizard enables you to create a new client file from a client data file, an existing file, or a file from other accounting packages.

To access the Wizard:

  1. Open Working Papers or select File | New .
  2. In the New File Name field, type the name of the new file. File names can be one to 100 characters long and can include spaces
  3. The in folder field displays the folder in which the new file will be located. To change this folder, click the drop down to select a different location.
  4. Select Existing File and click Create and import data.

  5. A browse will appear. Select an existing file to base your engagement on.

Step 1 (Welcome)

Welcome to the New File from Client Data Wizard

From the welcome page select the type of data source you want to create a new file from.

Step 2 (Client Data File)

Locate Client Data File

Select the client data file and click Next.

Use this option if creating a file based on an existing QuickBooks accounting file. With this option, Working Papers imports the accounting information directly from the QuickBooks file and allows you to choose an existing template or Working Papers file to supply the layout, documents, mapping and grouping structures for the file.

Step 3 (Client Data File)

Select the accounting data year you want to import.

Step 2 (Locate Existing File)

Locate Existing File

Select the Working Papers file you want to import data from and click Next.

Use this option if creating a file based on an existing Working Papers file. The accounting data is copied from the existing file, but you can select a different file or even a template to supply the layout, documents, mapping and grouping structures.

Step 2 (Import From Other Data Source)

Import From Other Data Source

You have selected to import data from another data source.

Use this option if you have been provided with your client data from other accounting packages. For a list of supported packages, see the Import index. The file is created with the accounting data from the accounting package, and you can select an existing file or template to supply the other components of your file.

Finish

New File Wizard Complete

This page shows the file paths of your source and destination files and confirms the components to be copied and components to be cleared.

Click Finish to complete the wizard and select an existing file to base your new engagement on.

Note: Files with protection on can be used. The new file will not have protection turned on, but you will need to enter the username/password to complete this action.

  • If your new file is obtaining documents from an existing file that contains account information, and you are creating a file from exported client data from a different file, the data imported from the accounting package is appended to the data in the existing file. The data in the existing file is not overwritten. To prevent this from happening, choose an existing file containing no accounts and balances.
