Connecting to Working Papers when Multiple Versions are Installed
Recall that you can have multiple client files open while working with Connector documents (refer here). Starting in Connector version 2012, you can also have multiple versions of Working Papers open while working with Connector documents as well.
Document is located in the client file folder
When the document is located in the client file folder, the default connection behavior is as follows:
- UDF links will connect to its associated client file on the version of Working Papers for that client file.
- DDE links will connect to the last opened client file on the version of Working Papers for that client file.
Document is located outside of the client file folder
When the document is located outside of the client file folder, the default connection behavior is to open the Active file. Active file designations are as follows:
-
UDF links, the Active file is the last client file to have received mouse focus on the version of Working Papers for that client file.
For example, if you currently have the client file on Working Papers 2011 minimized and are working in the client file on Working Papers 2012, then the Active file is the client file on Working Papers 2012 (regardless of which version was opened first).
Recall: UDF links only reference the Active file when it is outside the client file folder and the option Use Client File opened in Working Papers for UDF is selected. If this option is not selected (that is, unchecked), then UDF links will not connect to any client file.
-
DDE links, the Active file is the last opened client file on the version of Working papers for that client file.
For example, if the file on Working Papers 2011 was opened second, then the Active file is the client file on Working Papers 2011.
When alternating between multiple open versions of Working Papers, ensure to use the Recalculate command to refresh the values in your document.
Notes
- For UDF links, if the document is located inside the client file folder, values are retrieved from the associated client file. Even when the option Use Client File opened in Working Papers for UDF is enabled, links only connect to the Working Papers database of the associated client file.
- For the option Tools | CaseWare Working Papers, the version of Working Papers that opens is based on the default connection behaviors as outlined in this topic. If a link to a Working Papers client file cannot be determined, the program behavior, by default, is set to open the highest version of Working Papers.
