Create a Statement of Cash Flow Account

You can create a Statement of Cash Flow account for calculating the draft Statement of Cash Flow.

Prerequisites:

  • The account number must begin with S, followed by two digits.

To create a Statement of Cash Flow account:

  1. On the ribbon, click Account | Trial Balance.
  2. In the Trial Balance, click the Report worksheet tab, then click New. A new line is inserted.
  3. Click Properties. The Account/Line Properties dialog displays.
  4. Enter an account number and name. If required, click ... to enter an extended account description.
  5. In the Type drop-down menu, select Statement of Cash Flow.
  6. In the Normal Sign drop-down menu, select whether the account is typically a debit or credit account.
  7. Click the Cash Flow tab.
  8. Select the type of balance you want to use in the Calculate balance using: drop-down menu. If you want to enter the cash flow balance manually, select N/A in the Update cash flow accounts drop-down menu. Click Close.

The Statement of Cash Flow account is added to the Trial Balance. Repeat the procedure to complete the Statement of Cash Flow section.

After you've finished creating the Statement of Cash Flow accounts, you can link Balance Sheet and Income Statement accounts to them.

To link to Statement of Cash Flow accounts:

  1. On the ribbon, click Account | Trial Balance.
  2. Click the Report worksheet tab.
  3. Select the Balance Sheet or Income Statement account that you want to link to a Statement of Cash Flow account
  4. In the CS column, select the Statement of Cash Flow account that will receive any credit amounts for the account. In the DS column, select the Statement of Cash Flow account that will receive any debit amounts for the account. By entering the account number in both the CS and DS columns, both credit and debit amounts for the account will update the Statement of Cash Flow.
  5. Select the Statement of Cash Flow account where you want to update the balance based on selections made in the Balance Sheet and Income Statement accounts.
  6. In the CS column, select the appropriate code for the type of balance to link. For example, D calculates the difference between active and prior period balances. In the DS column, enter an A to specify that the Statement of Cash Flow balance will automatically update from a Balance Sheet or Income Statement account.

The accounts are linked and will update the Statement of Cash Flow from a Balance Sheet or Income Statement account.
