Copy Components

You can use the Copy Components function to copy specific components from a source file to a destination file, such as documents, groupings, journal types, the Trial Balance, and history settings.

To copy components from one file into another:

  1. On the ribbon, click File | Copy Components. The Copy Components Wizard displays.
  2. On the Welcome screen, select a method that best describes how you want to copy components.
  3. Copy Into This File: If you have the file open that you want to copy components into, on the Select Source screen, select the file or template to copy components from. Click Next.

    Copy Into A New File: On the Select New Destination File screen, enter a name and location for the new file to create. Click Next. On the Select Source screen, select the file or template to copy components from, then click Next. If you have a file open, it is automatically designated as the source file and this step is skipped.

    Copy Into An Existing File: On the Locate Existing Destination File screen, Browse for the file that you want to copy components into. Click Next.

  4. On the Copy Components screen, select All Components to copy all components, or select The following components and specify the components that you want to copy.
  5. On the Clearing Components screen, select the components that you want to clear existing data from in the destination file.
  6. A summary of the components to copy and clear displays. To proceed, click Finish.

The selected components are copied into the file.

Notes:

  • You should always copy Working Papers files using Copy Components rather than Windows Explorer. Copying a file using Windows Explorer can cause corruption in the file.
  • Clearing Programs/Checklists removes completion information from all existing programs and checklists in the destination file, not just for the documents and records being copied. To maintain current information, do not clear Program/Checklist information, instead copy the data over and manually remove it from the destination file.
  • Clearing Role Completion does not clear procedure sign-offs. We recommend adding the procedure from the Document Library rather than copying it from another file.
  • If the destination file is a sync file, any outstanding changes are applied to the file when copying components. This may result in synchronization conflicts.

Component groups

The following describes the groups of components that you can copy into your destination file:

Components Description
Documents

Select to copy specific documents into the destination file. If you copy a document or document number that already exists in the destination file, the copied document is added to the top of the Document Manager so you can choose your resolution method.

Notes:

  • Use the Document Filter to find specific documents.
  • Select Copy Documents only (no folders) if you do not want to include the parent folders of the documents you copy.
Groupings/Mapping

Select to copy group numbers, map numbers, and their associated tags into the destination file.

In the Groupings/Mappings pane, select Mapping to copy the source file's mapping database over the destination file's mapping database. Click Options to customize additional mapping settings for the destination file.

Select L/S to copy the leadsheet grouping from the source file to a grouping in the destination file. To specify the grouping in which to copy, select it from the drop-down menu. Any existing grouping in the destination file will be overwritten. Click Options to customize additional leadsheet settings for the destination file.

Notes:

  • Click Set as Default to preserve the selections that you have made in the Mapping and Grouping options.
  • This option does not copy the XBRL taxonomy assigned to the map numbers.
Structures

Select to copy structure definitions into the destination file.

Issues

Select to copy document issues into the destination file. You can copy issues, issue views and issue types.

When copying issues, you can designate whether to merge, update, or replace existing issues in the file.

Note: Issue annotations will only be copied if the Issue and the object that annotations are linked to are also copied.

Tags

Select to copy tags into the destination file. New tags are appended to the file. Existing tags are overwritten.

Role Sets

Select to copy any existing role sets and their settings into the destination file.

Tickmarks

Select to copy the standard and customized tickmarks and any extended descriptions into the destination file.

Journal Types

Select to copy any journal types into the destination file.

Custom Balance IDs

Select to copy custom balance IDs into the destination file (found in Tools | Options | Lists | Custom Balances).

Units

Select to copy unit information into the destination file (found in Tools | Options | Lists | Units).

Language IDs

Select to copy language information into the destination file (found in Tools | Options | Language).

Trial Balance

Select to copy the Trial Balance, chart of accounts, leadsheet and grouping assignments, ratio classes, report setup, account linkage, adjusting entries, other entries, map numbers assigned to accounts, and engagement values for the Reporting Dates and Period Balances into the destination file.

Annotation and tickmarks are copied unless you select the appropriate clearing options on the Clearing Components screen.

Split-up Accounts

Select to copy split-up accounts with their structures into the destination file.

Tax Export Codes

Select to copy the tax database into the destination file. If the tax database has changed, new codes are appended to the file and any existing codes are overridden.

Security

Select to copy aspects of security including Users and Groups and their respective access rights into the destination file.

Note: You must have the Copy Components and Allow copying of Security Settings group right to copy security settings.

Document Filters

Select to copy custom-built Document Manager filters into the destination file.

Template Toolbar

Select to copy the template toolbar into the destination file.

Layout

Select to copy the current layout into the destination file (found in Tools | Options | Layout). Copying a layout replaces the existing layout .xml file.

Taxonomy

Select to copy the files from the taxonomy directory into the destination file taxonomy directory.

History Settings

Select to copy history settings into the destination file (found in Engagement | History | Settings).

User Defined Data

Select to copy user defined data into the destination file.

CV External Data

Select to copy and merge data from CaseView external databases into the destination file. New data is appended to the database and existing data is overridden.

CaseView Repository Files

Select to copy files from the CaseView repository into the destination file.

Mapping Purges

Select to copy mapping purge information into the destination file (found in Tools | Options | Mapping | Purge).
