Creating a Popup List
Use alphanumeric, numeric or date cells to create a dynamic popup that displays a list of items from which a user in Form Mode can select.
Each item in the list can have a value that either appears when the item is selected or updates other cells in the document referenced to the popup cell.
If the popup accepts user input, the user can add an item to the popup list.
-
Place the cursor in the cell where you want the popup list.
-
On the Home tab, click Cell.
Note: You can also double-click the cell to open the Cell dialog.
- On the General tab, under Calculation Properties, select both the Popup Cell and Input Cell options.
- Under Properties, click Popup.
- Select the Manual option.
- In the Take display contents from group, select whether the popup list displays the list item itself or some other text that you will specify in the Alternate Content box below.
- In the Make cell value equal to group, select whether the cell's value will be the popup list item or the alternative content.
-
Select the other options for the popup. For more information, see Manual Popop tab options.
- Click Add.
-
In the Popup List Item box, enter the value for the popup list item. Click to access the Calculation Editor dialog or enter text in the box.
Note: If the popup item is text, surround it in quotations. If you forget to put text entries in quotes, an error message appears when the dialog box closes. To fix, reopen the dialog and add the missing quotes.
- In the Index box, assign each of the items in the popup list a unique number.
-
(Optional) You can pick an item to be the default item by selecting the Default Item option. Designating a default value avoids the problem of having blank pop-up cells.
- Click Add to create additional items for the popup list.
-
Click OK.
Notes
- If you want to display text within the popup cell, the cell type must be designated as Alphanumeric in General tab. To display dates, the cell must be designated a Date cell in General tab. Dates display in the format set in the Date settings.
- In Form Mode, existing pop-ups can be quickly accessed by pressing Alt+down arrow.
- If the text length of the list item exceeds the width of the popup cell, the text will automatically wrap.
