Firewall settings
To ensure the full operation of Caseware products used by your organization, you may need to add port exceptions to the Windows Defender Firewall.
To add a port exception:
- In the Windows Defender Firewall settings, click Advanced settings.
- On the left-hand pane, click Inbound Rules.
- On the right-hand pane, click New Rule....
- In the Rule Type dialog, select Port and click Next.
- Select either TCP or UDP (whichever applies), then select Specific local ports and enter the applicable ports in the field. Click Next.
- Select Allow the connection and click Next.
- Select the profiles for which the rule should apply. Click Next.
- Enter a name and optional description for the rule. Click Finish.
A port exception is added to the Windows Defender Firewall.
Default ports
The following describes the default ports for each listed product.
Working Papers
- Port 50412 for SmartSync Presence Information. Required to pass SmartSync information to other workstations on the local network.
- Port 80 for HTTP access. Required for client workstations to access the IIS web server where SmartSync Server is installed.
- Port 443 for HTTPS access. Required for client workstations to access the IIS web server where SmartSync Server is installed.
Caseware Cloud
- Cloud uses HTTP and HTTPS ports to communicate with Working Papers and requires a browser that supports SSL and TLS (1.2 and higher). See Disabling access to Caseware Cloud for older and unsupported browsers for more information.
DataStore (SQL)
- Ports 1433 and 1434 (TCP/UDP).
Network license server
- Ports 5093 and 5099 (TCP/UDP).
SmartSync Server
- Port 80 for HTTP access.
- Port 443 for HTTPS access.
Separate file servers
- TCP ports 135, 139 and 445 for communication between parent client files stored on separate servers.
