Account Numbers

  • Prime posting account numbers (accounts that are greater than 99 and ZZ) can be up to 16 digits in length and alphanumeric. They must be unique and cannot be duplicated. Prime posting account numbers can be used in Account Tab and Report Tab.

  • Control account numbers are those numeric accounts less than 100. These accounts are used for the Report Tab only. Control account numbers are non-posting accounts and are not included in the general ledger. These accounts are used in the preparation of the Working Papers draft financial statements for three purposes:

    • to "roll up" account balances from a schedule to a main balance sheet.
    • to transfer account balances from one section of a statement to another.
    • to simplify the appearance of divisional accounts on balance sheet and income statements.

When entering adjusting or transaction journal entries, posting accounts assigned to these control accounts are automatically updated.

  • Cash Flow account numbers are used for calculating the draft Statement of Cash Flow and should have an account number that begins with an "S" followed by two numbers.
