Creating Prime Posting Accounts

In the Working Trial Balance, you can create, edit, delete and lock accounts. Account numbers are separated between prime posting and control accounts. For more information on Account Numbers, view Account Numbers.

A prime posting account must have an account number equal to or greater than 100 and ZZ. Account numbers less than 100 are reserved for control accounts.

  1. On the Account tab, in the Balances group, click Trial Balance.

  2. In the Working Trial Balance, select Account tab, and click New.

    Note:You can add an account wile on any line in the Account tab as the account is always inserted automatically in account number order.

  3. Complete the applicable properties in the New Account dialog. When selecting the applicable map number, additional account properties are completed automatically based on the properties assigned to the map number.
  4. Click OK or if you are adding multiple accounts, click Next to insert the new account into the Working Trial Balance and then continue with the next account.

The account is added in the Working Trial Balance and can be viewed or edited.

The account is added in the Working Trial Balance Report tab and can be viewed or edited.

  • The description, statement type, account number, sign, groupings, and ratio class automatically update the Account tab if applicable.
  • Accounts with opening, prior or budget balances cannot be deleted.
  • To delete an account, click  in Working Trial Balance to remove.
  • To lock an account, select in the Lock column. Once locked, no further changes can be made to transactions, adjusting journal entries, account balances, and properties. Only unrecorded adjusting entries can be created using the account.
  • Multiple rows can be modified at the same time by selecting the rows while holding down the CTRL key and clicking the Lock check box in any row. On the Edit menu, click Select All to highlight all rows at once.
  • If applicable, map numbers can be assigned to multiple accounts quickly and easily using the Assign Mapping Numbers dialog. See the topic Assigning Mapping Numbers for more information.
