Engagement History Dialog

The Engagement History dialog displays history events in your client file.

The History tab of the Engagement History dialog lists all History events that have occurred at the Engagement level.

The list of events that are recorded:

File Creation
Sign Out/In
File Access
Year End Close
Update from Template
Check Out/In
Document Deletion

The Auto-Compare tab of the Engagement History dialog customizes the default behavior when comparing document milestones.

Note: Auto-Compare Milestone Sets is not available in SmartSync.

Compare Option	Description
None	The default option. When using the Auto-Compare function, documents are not automatically compared; you must select a prior milestone from the available list.
Last Saved Milestone	Compares the current document to the last saved milestone by user. Use the list to select either: You - Automatically compares the document to your last saved milestone. Anyone - Automatically compares the document to the last saved milestone by time stamp. Specific user - Automatically compares the document to the last saved milestone by the specified user.
Last Milestone	Compares the current document to the last saved milestone by event type and by user. For a list of event types and their descriptions, see History Events. For a full list of event types and their descriptions, see History Events.
Last Completion	Compares the current document to the last saved milestone by role sign off and by user. Use the drop-down menu to select either: Any Role - Automatically compares document to the last saved milestone at the time of the last role sign off. Specific role - Automatically compares document to the last saved milestone at the time of the specified role sign off.
Last Access	Compares the current document to the milestone generated the last time the document was accessed by a specific user. If your Engagement History settings generate a milestone every time a document is accessed, use Last Access to display changes made to the document since it was last opened.
Lockdown	Compares the current document to the milestone generated when lockdown occurred or when a post-lockdown milestone was generated.
Milestone Set	Compares the current document to the last generated milestone by milestone set. For more information, see Generating a Milestone Set. Note: This option is not available in SmartSync.
Auto-Compare Milestone Sets	Creates a Milestone set.

The Settings tab of the Engagement History dialog lists all of the History events that can be recorded. Events are listed by category and for some events, the frequency in which events are saved can be defined by users.

On the Settings tab, the Save Type column displays how a History event is recorded. You can change a History event's Save Type by selecting it. With this feature you can direct Working Papers to generate a milestone when it records certain History events. For a list of the ways certain History events can be recorded, see Generated Milestones below.

Note: The option to Automatically Generate Milestones is not available for all events in SmartSync.

History Events

Category	Occurs when...	Log location
File Creation	A file is created.	Engagement history
Sign Out/In	A file is signed out or signed in.	Engagement history
File Access	A file is opened.	Engagement history
Year End Close	A Year End Close is performed.	Engagement history
Update from Template	A Template Update is launched. An event is recorded whether the update process is successful or cancelled.	Engagement history
Adjusting Journal Entry	An adjusting journal entry is created or deleted. See Tracking Adjusting Journal Entries.	-
Document Creation	A document is created.	Document properties
Document Modification	The properties of a document have been modified including when a document is deleted.	Document properties
Check Out/In	A document is checked out or checked in.	Engagement history / Document properties
Roles Completion	The roles on a document have been signed off.	Document properties
Recycle Bin	Documents have been deleted or restored from the Recycle Bin. Note: Not available in SmartSync.	Document properties
Document Deletion	A document is permanently deleted.	Engagement history
Issue Creation	An issue is created.	Document properties
Document Access	A document is opened.	Document properties
User Defined Events	A user defined event is triggered. Configured via the COM model.	-

Generated Milestones

Save Type	Description
None	Does not generate a milestone for the event.
Overall Change Only	Does not generate a milestone. However, a History event is recorded under Document Properties. Note: Only applicable for events that affect documents.
Single Milestone for All Users	Generates a milestone for every event. A single milestone per user is created and each time a new milestone is created, the previous milestone for the user is deleted. Note: Not available in SmartSync.
Single Milestone for Each User	Generates a milestone for every event. A single milestone per user is created and each time a new milestone is created, the previous milestone for the user is deleted. Note: Not available in SmartSync.
Milestone for Every Event	Generates a milestone for every event. Note: For SmartSync users, this option is only applicable for Document Deletion events.
