Styles and Formatting dialog

The Styles and Formatting dialog enables you to update the appearance of the entire financial statements, selected areas, or a specific paragraph, column, row, or table. You can also use the Styles and Formatting dialog to update the style on which your cursor is selected to a themes.

This dialog is appropriate to use when you want to make font and spacing changes to an entire portion of the statements.

The Styles and Formatting dialog contains two panes. The Properties pane enables you to specify the element or elements to be edited. Select the element to be edited from the following list:

Element Description
This Paragraph The paragraph that your cursor was positioned on when you opened the Styles and Formatting dialog.
This Line The line of the table that your cursor was positioned on when you opened the Styles and Formatting dialog.
This Column The entire column that your cursor was positioned on when you opened the Styles and Formatting dialog.
This Table The table that your cursor was positioned on when you opened the Styles and Formatting dialog.
Page Headers The document page headers.
Body

The entire body of the document. Or, you can select one of the following other document components:

  • Cover Page
  • Table of Contents
  • Note Headings
  • Table Heading
  • Table Body
  • Paragraph Text
Page Footers The document page footers.
Entire Document All printing areas of the financial statements. Use this option to make global font changes.
Themes

Displays the style where the cursor is positioned when the dialog is launched. It behaves like the Modify Styles dialog when in themes Preview. You can also type in the name of a style (if known) and edit the style.

In a library file, this is the only active option and enables you to change the selected style for paragraphs in Do-It-Yourself tables.

The contents of the second pane depend on the element that you selected in the first pane. For all elements except Themes, a pane appears that enables you to specify the appearance of the element that you have selected. The table below lists the formatting capabilities that are provided in this pane. Depending on the element that you are editing, some of these capabilities may not be editable.

Attribute Description
Font The font to use for this element.
Size The point size to use.
Justification The justification for the element (which is where the element is to be positioned in its containing element).
Space before paragraphs The amount of space before each paragraph in the element.
Space after paragraphs The amount of space after each paragraph in the element.

Bold

Italic

Underline

Small Caps

All Caps

Check boxes that specify additional font decorations for the element. New! Select the color picker drop-down to add a custom color to the element.

Bold current period data Display all current period data in bold face.
Automatically update style Automatically update the themes to reflect this change.
Include heading The change also affects any related table headings.
Apply to all tables in section When changing a table or table column, any changes also affect all other tables in the section.

For the Themes element, a pane appears in which you can edit the style to use for the paragraph containing the current field or, if known, you can type in a different style. This pane contains the following:

Original Paragraph Style

The original paragraph style for the current field.
Current Paragraph Style The current paragraph style for the current field.
Current Document themes The current themes for the document.
Paragraph Style Type the paragraph style to use for the current field. Click Edit Style to edit this style.
Preview Shows how text will be displayed in the current style.
Description A detailed description of the formatting used in this style.
