Generate Milestones

Preserve the current state of your document for comparison, backup, and recovery purposes by creating a milestone.

To create a milestone:

  1. From the Document Manager, right-click on the applicable document and click Save Milestone.
  2. The Save Milestone dialog displays. If required, add a comment to describe the milestone. Click Save.

In CaseView, you can create a milestone when you are in the document.

To create a milestone in CaseView:

  1. On the ribbon, click File | Version History | Create Milestone.
  2. The Create New Milestone dialog displays. If required, add a comment to describe the milestone. Click OK.

The milestone is saved. You can view or delete the milestone from Engagement | History, or File | Version History | History in CaseView.

You can also set CaseView to automatically generate milestones when you save changes to the document.

To automatically generate milestones in a CaseView document:

  1. Open the applicable CaseView document and click File | Version History | Options.
  2. In the Options dialog, select Generate milestones automatically when saving. Click OK.

The document now automatically generates milestones. You can store up to 10 automatically generated milestones at once for each document.

Notes:

  • If a document exceeds 10 automatic milestones, the oldest milestone is discarded for the newest. This restriction does not include manually created milestones.
  • You can convert an automatic milestone to a ‘manually created milestone' by renaming it in the Version History dialog. This prevents Working Papers from overwriting the milestone on the next save.

Generate a Milestone Set

If you want to save the current state of all documents in a Working Papers file, you can generate a milestone set.

Note: This feature is not available in SmartSync versions of Working Papers.

To generate a milestone set:

  1. On the ribbon, click Engagement | History.
  2. Click the Auto-Compare tab.
  3. In the Auto-Compare Milestone Sets group, enter a descriptive label for the milestone set in the Set Label field.
  4. Click Generate Now, then OK.

After generating the milestone set, each document in the Working Papers file displays a new milestone that you can view or compare.

Recover a Milestone

If you want to roll a CaseView document back to a previous state, recover it from a milestone. Recovering does not overwrite the document, but instead creates a new copy of the document based on the selected milestone. You can then remove the file you don't require, or keep both copies.

To recover a milestone in CaseView:

  1. On the ribbon, click File | Version History | History.
  2. Select the milestone you want to recover. Click Recover.
  3. A dialog to save the new document displays. Assign an identifier and add a description for the document. Click OK.

A copy of the document recovered from the milestone is added to the file. You can locate the file in the Document Manager under the assigned identifier.
