Add smart currency symbols
You can use smart currency symbols to automatically include currency symbols the first or last printed cell of a section. Smart currency symbols will always display in the first or last cell, regardless how many paragraphs are skipped in the section.
To add smart currency symbols to a section:
- Ensure you are working in Design Mode.
- Right-click the section where you want to add the smart currency symbol, then click Modify....

On the Section dialog, in the Smart Currency/Unit group, select Sinking, Rising, or both to define where to position the smart currency symbol.
Option Description Sinking Applies the currency symbol to the first valid cell in the section. Rising Applies the currency symbol to the last valid cell in the section. Both Applies the currency symbol to the first and last valid cells in the section. -
Customize any other smart currency properties as required.
Option Description Reapply every page Select to ensure that a currency symbol displays for the first or last cell after a page break. Skip zero cells in table Select to apply the currency symbol to the first or last cell with a non-zero value. Click OK.
The smart currency symbol is added to the document section.
To permit numeric cells in a section to accept a smart currency symbol, select a cell, then click Home | Cell | Numeric. Under the Accept Floating group, select Currency/Unit Symbol. You must enable this option for all cells in the section.
