Insert page number references
You can reference a different page or range of pages in a document using page number references. Page number references are useful for creating a manual table of contents in your document and improving document navigation.
To insert a single page number reference:
- Position your cursor where you want to insert a page number reference.
- On the ribbon, click Insert | Page Number Reference.
- In the Page Number Reference dialog, select a page number format.
- Under Paragraph tag references, select Single page entry.
- In the At/from paragraph tag drop-down menu, select the applicable paragraph tag.
- If you want to add text before or after the page number, complete the applicable fields under Custom - Single Page. Click OK.
The single page number reference displays in the document as {T#}. You can view the actual page number reference in the document's print preview (File | Print | Print Preview).
To insert multiple page number references:
- Position your cursor where you want to insert multiple page number references.
- On the ribbon, click Insert | Page Number Reference.
- In the Page Number Reference dialog, select a page number format.
- Under Paragraph tag references, select Multiple page entry.
- In the At/from paragraph tag drop-down menu, select the first page number in the range.
- In the To paragraph tag drop-down menu, select the last page number in the range.
- In the Range separator drop-down menu, select a separator to use between the first and last page numbers. If you select Custom, you can define your own separator in the following step.
- If you want to add text before or after the page numbers, complete the applicable fields under Custom - Multiple Pages. If applicable, define your custom separator in the Between field. Click OK.
The multiple page number reference displays in the document as {T#-#}. You can view the actual page number references in the document's print preview (File | Print | Print Preview).
