Using Tabs to Format a Paragraph

Tabs are used to control the horizontal positioning of text in a document. By default tab markers are set at 0.5-inch (1.27 cm) intervals from the left margin. You can change the indent text in a paragraph by pressing the TAB key. Alternately, you can set precise positions for text or cells by using the horizontal ruler in addition to the TAB key.

Use tabs to format many areas of your document including:

  • Indenting text
  • Aligning columns of cells
  • Using different types of alignment in a single line of text
  • The keystroke for tabs in input paragraphs in the Form Mode is Ctrl+Tab. Just plain Tab is the standard keyboard shortcut for moving between elements in a form or a dialog.
