Document Settings | File

Filing Options

Option Description & Settings
Backup

Set how the backup feature performs. The backup is for the current document, not for the entire client file.

  • Always keep a backup copy: Automatically creates a backup copy of the file each time the file is saved. Backup copies are saved in the same directory as the original file and have the same filename with the .bak extension. For example, the backup file of a file called sample.cvw is called sample.bak.

  • Don’t keep a backup copy: Does not keep a backup copy of the file when the file is saved.

  • Use client defaults: Uses the defaults set in the client file.

Save

Set the file save settings to be performed when closing a file.

  • Automatically save: Automatically saves the file. If chosen, the "Do you wish to save?" dialog no longer appears and the program assumes the user always wishes the save performed when the document closes.

  • Never save: If chosen, the "Do you wish to save?" dialog no longer appears and the program assumes the user never wishes to save when the document closes. The document can be saved only by using File | Save or clicking on the toolbar.

  • Prompt (Default): Prompts the user each time a save is about to be performed with a "Do you wish to save?" dialog. The user can accept by pressing Yes, or abort the save by pressing No. This dialog does not display if the document is opened and closed without being modified in any way.

Attach to Open Client File The file remains unpopulated if no client file is currently open. If document is a knowledge library file, selecting this option automatically populates the knowledge library file with data from the open client file.
Never Autosave

Select to prevent automatic saving of the file. The file is saved only when the user clicks File | Save or clicks on the toolbar.

Note: If CaseView closes suddenly, all work done since the last manual save will be lost.

File can be opened by multiple users When selected, this allows the document to be opened in by multiple users, with all but the first user having the file open in Read Only mode. No Read Only question message box displays. The document functions normally, but it cannot be saved. Any changes made affecting the CaseView database will be written to the database.
Changes due to Recalculations do not mark the document modified

If selected, a recalculation of the document does not mark it as modified. All dates related to modification will remain unchanged and no prompt will appear asking if a save is necessary when exiting.

Note: The XWKS function links to a value from a specific cell in another CaseView document. This option may have an adverse effect on the values linked through XWKS. More information may be found in the notes of the XWKS function help topic.
