Note Number Reference command

Use this dialog to insert or edit a cross-referenced note number in your CaseView document. To edit a note number quickly, double-click the note number in the document. Note numbers are indicated by a blue font.

A listing of the cross-references used for this location is shown. Multiple cross-references can be added to the same location.

Reference

Represents the cross-reference identifier. The maximum length for an identifier is 30 characters.

Condition

Represents the hide condition.

Removable

Specifies if the user in the Form Mode can remove this cross-reference. (The "Can be removed from Form Mode" box is checked.)

Expressed

Specifies whether the Note number is fully expressed or not.

Click New to create a new cross-reference. Multiple cross-references can be added to the same location.

Tip

  • Display only text for button cells cannot be used for a note number cross-references.

To delete a cross-reference from the Cross-reference list, select the cross-reference and then click Delete.

Cross-reference from

Type or select the cross-reference identifier of the note number you want to cross-reference.

Reference skip condition

In addition to skipping references to notes using the Add/ remove note number dialog, you can tell CaseView to remove a note from a cross-reference under specific conditions. For example, you can enter a condition that skips the reference if there is a net loss. Enter a logical condition to control when the note is not to be printed.

If it is the only note referenced, the entire cross-reference will be skipped.

Can be removed from Form Mode

Select this option to enable a user in the Form Mode (with or without editing enabled) to remove a note from the cross-reference. Please note, the option to Permit modification in Form mode must also be selected. From Form Mode or Form Mode with Enabled Editing, right-click on the cross-reference and select Modify Note References.

Notes that cannot be removed are grayed out in the dialog. Once note references are removed in the Form Mode, they cannot be added back.

Fully expressed reference

Select to allow sub reference notes to be referenced including the formatting of their parent references. For example if you select this option, a note called "a" under the note called "1" will appear as 1a in the note reference.

Hide unreferenced cross-references in Form Mode

Select to hide any cross-references that are not actually used in the document when you are in Form Mode.

Include any before and end text from referenced notes

Select to have any text associated with the referenced notes, such as "Note 2", also display when cross-referenced.

Show Note Identifiers

Select this option to show identifiers for the notes.

Quick Drilldown to Note Number

Select to make the note number reference interactive. Clicking the reference will open the note.

Permit modification in Form Mode

Select this option to permit the user to add or remove note numbers from the cross-reference by right-clicking the note number. If all the notes referenced are removed, the entire cross-reference will be hidden. This is valuable to use when the user links in new notes from a Knowledge library and needs to be able to cross-reference them.

If the note is modifiable the symbol {#N} will appear red in the Form Mode (with or without editing enabled).

Note

  • It is also necessary to enable editing in the paragraph or section properties to allow users to fully edit the note number reference in Form mode with Editing Enabled. Once this is configured to allow editing, an option will appear in the context menu when right-clicking on the reference labelled Edit Note Number Reference. The full contents of the dialog described in this topic will be made available to the user.

Category available in Form Mode

If you have assigned notes to categories, specify the appropriate category for the cross-reference.

When entering note numbers, the designer can specify to which category certain notes belong. When determining rights in the Form Mode (with or without editing enabled), the designer can specify one category or all categories for modification.

Set options to format the note number.

Note: CaseView automatically detects the number of cross-references being used and displays the plural settings when there are multiple cross references and the singular settings if there is only one note cross-reference.
