About Calculation Errors During XBRL Export

During an XBRL export, CaseView can now check to see that tagged numeric items in the document sum up correctly based on the Taxonomy's Calculation linkbase. If any are out of balance, a new diagnostic appears during the Export process.

A new XBRL Instance Preview Interface has also been added to allow the user to more easily see calculation errors.

For example, on a balance sheet, the user can verify that Cash and Accounts Receivable correctly sum to the amount entered in the Total Current Assets account.

Pressing the Correct button launches an Instance Document Preview Interface where the user can see the calculation error easily and jump to the corresponding XBRL tag in order to correct the error.

Features of the Instance Document Preview Interface

  • Navigation buttons to jump back and forth between unbalanced values
  • Correct button to launch the tagging dialog to correct tagging errors
  • Right-clicking of unbalanced values in the tree to bring up a context menu and correct tagging errors (This is the same functionality as Correct button).
  • If multiple Contexts or Numeric units of measure have been used in tagging, use the Context/Numeric Unit drop-down list to switch between each of these combinations.
  • The above primarily refers to using an XBRL v2.1 taxonomy, however the functionality is similar for XBRL v2.0 taxonomies, minus the Numeric units of measure.
  • A complete listing of XBRL diagnostics is available for reference. You can also view the complete list of errors and, if permission has been granted, change their class, from the XBRL Options dialog.
