Importing from BusinessVision (Legacy)

The instructions in this topic are for importing from BusinessVision Legacy into CaseWare Working Papers. These instructions describe how to import data from the following versions of BusinessVision:

  • 1.33, 3.0 and 3.1
  • DELTA 1.33, DELTA 3.0, and DELTA 3.1
  • TURBO 4.24, TURBO 4.3, and TURBO 4.4
  • Use the export module in BusinessVision to export the chart of accounts and general ledger detail as comma-delimited ASCII files.

The required export files include:

File Containing...
GL-CHART.TXT Chart of accounts
GL.TXT General ledger detail (optional)
BVCON.FIL Profile information
  • If Protection is activated, the File permission "Import" is required to perform this operation.
  1. Open the client file in which you want to import.

  2. On the Engagement tab, in the Data group, click Import | Accounting Software.

  3. In the Import From field, select BusinessVision (Legacy) and in the Version field, select the version of BusinessVision you want to import.

    Note: Click here to see all accounting software supported versions.

  4. In the Import Path field, type the exact path where the file you want to import resides or use Browse to locate the file manually.

  5. Under Import Components, choose to import either:

    • The Trial Balance (Opening Entries) or,
    • The General Ledger Detail.
  6. To import client information, click Import Client Information. This information will be displayed in the Engagement Properties dialog.

  7. Complete the remaining fields of the dialog:
    • Prior Year Data - Imports prior year balances into the Working Papers file. If selected, any existing prior year data will be overwritten. If left blank, prior year data will not be imported.
    • Use Department Codes - Imports the department or sub-account codes of the file.
    • Retained Earning account for year end close - Type in the account number for retained earnings. This is used during a year-end close.
  8. Click OK to begin importing.

Accounting data is imported into the client file.
